Why that name: Otome means "Daughter"; Yori means "From"; Goliath is the Sire; Kenshiki means "Pride"
I had a particular fondness for Yori and Sake's father, Goliath so I decided to get a puppy from his second litter with Sasha and that is our home was graced with the presence of Sake's younger sister, Yori. Yori couldn't be more unlike Sake in build, looks, or temperament, yet they do have one similarity, which is the only one I have found, that similarity being that they both have their mother's eyes. Other than that, the two girls are polar opposites.
Yori is our most laid back girl. I have never heard a peep out of her whether it be a bark or talking. I have heard an occasional rumble regarding food or someone annoying her (so her vocal cords do work, she just chooses not to use them) but other than that, she is as quiet as a mouse. She is not pushed around and if a scuffle begins with dogs around her, she backs out of the way every time. She is a great Akita to have in a group situation because of her desire to avoid conflict. She is a lady in every sense of the word! When people visit, she is usually the last Akita you meet because she watches, just taking everything in and when you look up and realize you haven't petted this beautiful brindle girl who is staring at you yet, she gets excited and is ready to feel the love :-)
Yori is not hyper at all and is very into her routine schedule except when I say "Yori Skori: in a high pitched voice or when I sing a song and throw in "Yori Skori" as part of the lyrics. Then another side of her takes over like a split personality and she goes wild. It is adorable!!!!!
I now must share a short story about the first time Yori went swimming (there is a video for your viewing pleasure). We took Yori with Saber to Canyon Lake which happened to be the first time the two had ever set eyes on each other before. This explains what a perfect lady Yori is because we later realized, due to Saber's persistent and insane groping, that Yori was beginning another heat cycle. She took Saber in stride though and was very well behaved although the BACK of the truck was a new experience for her (please note as mentioned earlier, when our dogs are in the back of the truck, it is in a kennel or with me holding their leash as was the case this time as I rode in the back too; please do the same for your own dogs!).
When we arrived at the park and walked to the water's edge so that she could experience free-flowing, natural water for the first time she put one paw in, enough to wet her dog pads, and then hiked the leg up like the water was acid! It seemed Yori was uninterested in the delights of swimming. I moved on to Saber who we knew was thrilled with the prospects of swimming, much to the dismay of the nearby fishermen!
After Saber romped around quite a bit, I decided to give Yori a second shot at her swimming attempt as she seemed slightly more accepting now. She walked in and waded up to her chest without fear at all and then stopped! I kept going as long as the leash would allow (please do not take your dogs off leash in a public area!) and turned around and blew kisses to Yori who was watching me intently! IT WAS ON!!!!!!!!!! She jumped up in the air and dove in the water. She swam right to me and I gave her a pat on the head. I laughed so hard that I slipped and nearly drowned from laughter. From that point on she was a self proclaimed aqua-dog and used the rest of the duration of our trip to swim in constant circles around and around me. It was like a switch in Yori had been turned on but couldn't be turned off as she had newfound comfort in water :-) and she was quite thrilled with herself!
