Kari is a sweet and totally loving girl.  She came to us by her previous owner who has purchased her a few months before and was unable to keep her.  He knew that we had rescued the rest of her litter just after he bought her in Mathison, Colorado, and contacted us to see if we would take her as well.  Her littermates, Sensei, Sumo and Geisha were already with us his story tugged at my heart and I agreed.

She had just been taken from her puppies of her second litter and was beginning another heat at that time. He had also bred her on the heat prior to that so the game plan was to hire a ride for her from the central Colorado to central Arizona and start getting this girl recuperating and healthy and give her a chance to finish growing - and boy did she!  She got so nice and thick that when the previous owner saw a picture of her he thought she was pregnant again although I assured him that she was not!  She is now a stocky and well filled out lovely, true-white girl!

Kari's name came from the name her "breeder" chose from her and that she had gone by for her entire life.  I decided that she needed a fresh start, including but not limited a new call name!  Her original name was "Starlight" which I didn't like at all.  I decided to look up the words "star" and "light" and make them her first and middle names but when I started my online translation search I found that "starlight" is a noun translated into Japanese as well so it all worked out well and she was reborn HOSHIHIKARI!  That is obviously a mouthful so we shortened it to "Kari" being that "Hoshi" is too close to "Yoshi", the name of another of our females.  Kari suites her well and she learned it quite quickly!

Kari has a great personality and is a loving dog.  She gets along in a small group well.  She was initially in our large play group and goes back and forth sometimes but she gets picked on by more alpha females because she is such a pushover so she is easier to maintain in a smaller play group with a male and a couple of other females with our border collie mix rescue, Cookie.  Kari loves to play with Cookie and anyone else that will play without taking over and pushing their weight around.  Kari, and Cookie with the help of various Shibas can create quite the hilarious wrestling team!  It's comical to watch their antics as they hop around on each other, flipping and flopping this way and that!  Kari doesn't know a stranger and people that have come to meet her are amazed by her lab like personality.

Kari is an excellent mother and has extremely large litters of 10 or more puppies.  Her father and all littermates were bridle pintos so she does produce brindle but also reds and various other colors depending on the male's genetics.  She is a great mom and very protective of her newborns and keeps them nice and clean.  She also loves to play so when the puppies are old enough she is a good teacher about how to be playful without getting too rough, creating happy and well adjusted puppies for you!
