Kiku of Masako Hime MacLeod - Why that name?:  Kiku is the word for chrysanthymum which is the family crest of the Japanese Imperial family.  Masako is the name of one of the princesses and hime is the actual word meaning princess.  Although the emperor of Japan is now more of a figure head for the nation, it is the oldest hereditary monarchy in the entire world!

Kiku is an extremely loving girl who thinks she is a lap dog.  She is super attached to my family and especially to me but takes a good deal of time to warm up to new people.  She likes attention from anyone that will give it to her but visitors rarely see that side of her because she doesn't let them come very close to her without barking which usually makes people believe that they should be afraid of her.  This is my fault as she was not socialized with many strangers as a puppy because she arrived extremely small from her breeder.  At eight weeks she weighed less than 5 pounds instead of approximately 15 pounds.   I could feel her bones when petting her from any angle.  Being that Parvo runs rampid, especially in the spring and fall (which is when she arrived) in Arizona, I was concerned that her immune system was already compromised due to worms and poor nutrition so I didn't want to risk taking her out in public more than absolutely necessary so I didn't take her out except for routine vet visits.   With me, she is a total lap dog, whether that is outside in lawn chairs whenever I sit, or inside on the sofa, she makes way into my lap whenever possible.  Outside, she loves to stand on my lap as if it were her very special throan.

Kiku loves to stick her feet in the water bowl while she drinks from it, kind of like extra depth perception and she also enjoys standing in puppy play pools and drinking from them as well, as if it is extra special water.  She is picky about people food but thinks she wants to taste it all.  She usually only like meats, unlike the rest of my dogs that usually eat just about anything you hand them.  She will sniff everything but it is rare that she accepts something that is not meat based and when she takes it, she does so ever so gently.

Kiku's first litter was by Ryu.  The second litter was  Sumo followed the third litter by Rumor.
