At 5 years of age, Mikita joined

***Thanks for choosing us for another Akita!***

DOB: Jan. 6, 2005 in Missouri
Why that name: Mikita Margarita was named by her previous owner
Height: 26 inches at shoulders
Weight: approximately 85 pounds
Coloring: Very clean white, no variations in shades of white and no spots unless she has been grooming in preparation for a litter, in which case her saliva will dye her coat a lovely shade of pink. She has two patches of medium brown, one of her side and a matching one close to her tail. They match the brown on her face.
Coat: Slightly soft and would like to see it slightly longer. (Although many people like the softer coat for pets because it feels good to the touch.)
Tail: loose girl, medium fullness (great puppy picture of tail above in wading pool) When she prowls, she will sometimes drop it slightly
Mikita is our least social dog with strangers. She doesn't want to meet other dogs, except for Tiamo, who she liked to stay with as they grew up together. When he was adopted out to his retirement home, she settled in playing with their son, Saber. It takes a while for Mikita to trust newcomers. She will keep her distance for a while. (If you are coming to meet her on a day trip and will only be able to stay about an hour, do not expect much contact with Mikita.) Mikita is initially scared of children because she didn't meet any during her puppihood. She has since accepted my neighbor's children, who can now pet her, as long as they aren't sitting in one of her perches. She migrates to the same spot on the sofa or in the corner of a bedroom to lounge and expects to be left alone by children or dogs. When it is human bedtime, she expects to have a spot on the bed. She will not willingly move :-) She likes to hug me and other adults that she sees often. She is extremely lovable once she knows you well.
I believe Mikita's social intraversion is a byproduct of two things: puppihood and intelligence. Mikita is extremely smart. She learns routines and commands quickly, even as an adult. If you say it once, she remembers having done it before.
Mikita is also very in tune with her instincts. She is a smart predator of birds (doves and pigeons in my backyard). She has almost figured out how to climb a tree, whose branches begin about four feet off of the ground, to get to birds nesting in it. Everyday during play time in the yard, she spends her entire time hiding stuffed animals, unless there are birds present. I pick them up and put them back when she is done but the next day she looks for them, expecting to find them where she left them.
Passions: Dancing to Mikita Banana (her own personal theme song for several years now which gets her into a full body wag as she dances will you sing...you cannot fool her... if you say the words but don't sing or sing to a different tune than the Chiquita Banana theme, or simply sing in slow-mo she knows its still her song and that you are teasing her only prolonging the excitement!) hunting, burrying toys, finding pre-burried toys, chasing Saber in circles, naps with mom, puffy dog beds, middle cushion of the sofa with sure overhang to left and right cushions as well to make an entire sofa unusable, Butcher's Bones from Walgreens, steak, pig ears, mom's scrambled eggs - well pretty much any of mom's food, and finally, sending her litter off to their new families - means the work is done!
