Star was one of 9 home bred pups born 12/3/2009 to JR and Kari

Her name is a play off of both her exotic coat, and her mother's name.  Kari's name is Hoshihikari which means "starlight" in Japanese.  I used Star from that as we expect she will be one and added in stripes to be both patriotic and as a reference to her brindle coat.

I knew right away I wanted to keep her when I saw that exotic red brindle coat, even though it was obvious at an early age that she would not be the pick of the litter, as I had let other people have the last two red brindles I had bred and they are quite rare and for good reason as they are beautiful!  Red brindles are my particular favorite brindle pattern so I wasn't letting another one slip through my grasp, especially when her parents are both exceptional dogs!  As an adult, I expect her to have a nice blend of her parent's size, build in looks, so I really can't go wrong!

Star as a puppy as a very middle of the road personality.  She is certainly no where near the alpha puppy, which is to be expected as she was dwarfed by many of her littermates, but she isn't shy either.  She is happy and playful and a well adjusted puppy.  I expect her mother's lab like personality is going to come out in Star quite a bit as she gets older.  She will be raised in a small pack for the first few months, where she will play with a select few Akitas and some Shibas to get well socialized with various dogs, before she gets big enough to enter our big pack of adult Akitas.  Stay tuned to see what is in store for Miss Star!
