Voodoo  was born here to Duke and Voodoo.  We chose her name because she was almost entirely jet black.  She had very little of her mother's silver brindling and even less white markings than her father did.  It is extremely unusual to have such a black Akita, with so few white markings and so little brindling/shading so we decided to name her regarding her uniquness.

Voodoo is a tall girl and takes her father height luckily because that and his demeanor, which she also took, were his best traits.  The rest of Voodoo is very much like her mother.  She has a slight build, silver brindling, the same exact head and body of Wicket, the licky loos, the shiny jet black coloring and even her spasticness comes from mom.  You could say she got the best of both worlds.  Wicket was not a natural mother so from 4 weeks to 10 weeks, Voodoo and her litter of 7 was raised by a serogate mother, Sake, who had her own 8 puppies but raised all 15 while caring for a handicapped 3 month old, Maya, with ease.  I like to think that Sake's excellent mothering and stable temperament also imprinted on Voodoo, as hopefully did her mothering instincts and skills.

Temperament:  As mentioned above, Voodoo is very much like Wicket without all of the negative tendencies that Wicket had and is much more confident and stable minded than her mother.  Wicket did stamp her spasticness on Wicket and made her a licky-loo but other than that she is very much like Duke.  Luckily and unlike her mother, who was very much a loner, she can, and always has, gotten along in a group.  Her smallest pack size was four Akitas during the brief stay (3 months) with the Kieber family.  During Voodoo's leave, Wicket passed away of Bloat so, sadly, she never saw her mother again!  When we took Voodoo back she quickly returned to our pack so that she didn't lose the ability to get along and be the super social Akita we are known for.  Voodoo seemed to inheritantly know that she was Duke's blood as she migrated to him almost immediately.  She stayed with Duke almost entirely, in his "man cave" under the play ground and was almost always seen at his side.  They ate together, drank together, and if anyone picked on Voodoo or started to play rough, she would instictively run to Duke for protection which he easily provided with a stare as none of the other Akitas, male included, would question Duke's quiet dominance, based on his dwarfing size.  Until Duke was retired and adopted, the two were inseparable.

After Duke was adopted, Voodoo was forced to play nice or defend herself which pushed her into being a much more confident dog.  She is super playful with the other Akitas as well as with our rescued Border Collie mix, Cookie.  Voodoo loves to play with puppies even more than adults, another trait like her father.

Voodoo is our most active talker.  She is convinced, I believe, that we can understand her.  She has several different sounds she makes, especially when excited, when she wakes from a nap, or when she first sees you after an absence.  She does a bigger version of her father's "microwag", in that her tail is wagging with forces but her full curl never leaves the top of her back, almost like its attached.

Her coat is better than both of her parents.  She has a nice coarse double coat, not fine like Wicket's, nor short like Duke's.  Her coat is always a shiny jet black.

Her tail is a nice full tail of a full curl.

Voodoo got her flawless movement and excellent conformation that her mother borrowed from Grandma Jazz, who finished her show career easily owner handler in 2 months.  She has one of the best rear's we have and floats as she moves.

We look forward to a great future with this joyful girl!  Watch for more to come as she grows and develops!
